Blackpool has it all this Summer
Planning a day out or a holiday can be difficult when you have to consider the whole family, especially if you have young children. You want to ensure they are happy and entertained, and give them memories of a family holiday they will treasure!
When looking for the perfect destination, then Blackpool has all you could ask for to keep the family busy, so if you’re thinking about taking a trip to the world-famous seaside resort, here are some of the best things to do, see and visit to make the most of your time there.
Blackpool Beach
You simply cannot pass up the chance to run along the beach when you visit the seaside, and Blackpool has miles of sandy beaches to explore. In 2016, Blackpool’s South Beach was awarded Blue Flag status, meaning it has been recognised for its excellent seawater quality and a fantastic beach.
It has also recently been awarded four Seaside Awards for its South, Central, North, and Bispham Beaches by Keep Britain Tidy, in recognition again for its quality, facilities and tidiness.
Whether it’s paddling in the sea or building sandcastles on a sunny day, toddlers and younger children will love an afternoon on the beach, so pack a picnic or grab fish and chips from the promenade on your way to the golden sands. But remember to leave room for ice cream later!
Blackpool’s beaches are huge, meaning there is plenty of space for sunbathing, sandcastles and games, and don’t forget that Blackpool is the only British seaside resort that boasts three amazing piers.
Why not take a stroll along the promenade after a visit to the beach, where you can explore two kilometres of incredible lighting and sculptures designed by the UK’s best designers and artists, and a giant mirror ball at the South Beach, all part of the Great Promenade Show
The Blackpool Tower Eye
Blackpool Tower is an iconic landmark, not just for the town or Lancashire, but for the UK, and a trip to the top is a must-do activity for families.
From 380 feet in the sky, you can experience unparalleled views of the North West of England, across the Fylde Coast, over Bowland, south to Liverpool, north to the Lake District, and even the Isle of Man on a clear day. But for many, the thrill is not looking out across Lancashire, but down through the 2-inch thick glass floor of the thrilling SkyWalk!
On your way to the top of the Tower, or maybe on your way back down, why not pay a visit to the interactive 4D cinema, which will amaze the whole family as beachballs appear to leap off the screen, or explore the many other attractions at the Tower. Check out the combo tickets to find a bargain.
The Blackpool Tower Circus
Following a £1 million renovation, Blackpool Tower Circus has recently reopened to the public, in time for the 2022 summer season, where Mooky and Mr Boo’s Silver Jubilee Circus Show of fun, laughter and circus tricks will be joined by a human pyramid on the high wire and a double ‘big wheel of death’!
A trip to the circus will amaze the entire family, especially kids who will love seeing the death-defying stunts, comedic clowns, and world-class entertainment, just like The Greatest Showman.
The circus extravaganza is packed full of hysterical slapstick humour, as well as incredible stunts, spectacular acrobatics, and hilarious comedy that will have you laughing or gasping with amazement for the entire show.
Blackpool Zoo
If you’re wanting to have a really wild time in Blackpool with the family, then why not come face-to-face with some of the greatest animals from all around the world at Blackpool Zoo? From cute and cuddly to wild and ferocious, Blackpool Zoo has all the amazing animals that you and your kids will want to see.
From elephants to gorillas, emus to flamingos, sea lions to zebras, there’s wildlife for everyone, as well as a wide range of events, talks, and a playbarn perfect for toddlers to run around and work off some excess energy!
Best of all, it’s free entry for kids aged under three, and adult tickets start at £19.99 when booked in advance online.
Sandcastle Waterpark
Sandcastle Waterpark is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark, and with over 18 different rides, slides, and attractions, is guaranteed to be fun for the entire family. It’s also a great idea for those inevitable rainy days that we all know very well during the UK summertime!
Older kids will be rushing to try out Masterblaster, the world’s longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide, but there’s plenty for younger kids too, such as the Shimmering Shallows sleepy lagoon or the Caribbean Storm Treehouse.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach
It might be more associated with white-knuckle rides and rollercoasters such as The Big One, but Blackpool Pleasure Beach has much more to offer for a family day out.
One of the UK’s favourite theme parks, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has rides to suit children of all ages, and families will love Nickelodeon land, where toddlers will have the opportunity to meet their favourite TV characters, such as Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Squarepants, and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There might be a few adults who will want to meet them too!
Why not take in a round of Crazy Golf, or take the family to the bowling alley, and the Pleasure Beach has events all year round, such as the Hot Skate Shows, or the Circus of Horrors for the brave!
Coral Island
A visit to the arcades at Coral Island is as much of a ‘must-do’ as a trip to the Tower, whether you want to try the traditional seaside penny-pushers, crane grabs, or more 21st-century virtual reality experiences in the amazing arcade.
You can even take a trip above all the action on the Pirate Flyer monorail, experience a spooky trip on the Ghost Train, or win tickets for prizes in the Camel Derby.
Coral Island also has numerous family restaurants, from Captain Jack’s Bar and Grill, or the pirate galleon-themed Buccaneer family bar and restaurant, as well as traditional fish and chips. Best of all, kids eat for free at many of the restaurants. Keep an eye out for the yellow ‘Kids Eat Free’ stickers, where for every paid adult meal, kids will get a free meal.
Blackpool is guaranteed to give you the family trip of a lifetime and provide amazing fun for everyone, from toddlers to adults, who are sure to become big kids again! Why not visit Blackpool this summer and have a new experience in this wonderful Lancashire seaside town!
