Blackpool

The sun and the fun of summer feel like a distant memory now that the nights are drawing in, the skies are grey, and the temperatures fall, and for kids, it has meant the return to school. But October spells spooky season, and with the half-term holidays quickly approaching, there’s plenty to look forward to!
We’ve mentioned in a previous blog that the end of summer far from means the end of the fun in Blackpool and Coral Island, as while it might not be the weather for taking a dip in the sea, with the Illuminations, the shows, and the many attractions of the famous Lancashire seaside resort, there’s lots of fun to be had for the whole family.
Here at Coral Island, Captain Jack’s crew are always ready for Halloween, getting the spooky decor up in the rigging, and getting ready to give visitors a good scare! Let’s have a look at why you should come and visit Blackpool’s largest free admission attraction this half term and celebrate Halloween!
One of the biggest draws to Blackpool at this time of year has to be the world-famous Illuminations, but rather than being stuck in the traffic in a hot car, with the windows steaming up, and somebody always needing to use the toilet, why not make a day of it, take a walk along the Promenade to see the lights up close, feel the sea breeze, and come and visit Coral Island.
If you have never been before, then you can find Coral Island right on the Promenade, close to the centre of the world-famous seaside town, making it an ideal stop on your stroll. And if it’s Halloween thrills you’re looking for, then you’ll find plenty of scares, thrills, and things that go bump in the night!
Riveting Rides & Ghastly Ghost Trains!
Coral Island is known for its arcade machines, penny pushers, and all manner of traditional seaside arcade entertainments, but did you know we have rides too? There’s the Pirate Flyer, a monorail that takes you high above the action of the arcades!
But for Halloween fun, then you need to take a trip on the Pirate’s Quest Ghost Train! It’s a genuinely scary and spooky ride, so only the brave need set out on this ghoulish adventure!
Captain Jack likes to recant the story of how another pirate scallywag, Captain Coral, set forth in 1839 on a heist with his crew, to capture the King’s prized rubies. But while they made their escape across the seven seas, a violent storm smashed the Coral Crusader Galleon against the rocks of Coral Island, sending the pirate ship down to the darkest depths of the sea, along with the stolen rubies.
Now brave adventurers can get on board the ghost train to explore this haunted shipwreck, and as it twists and turns through the remains of the vessel, keep your eye out for the precious rubies!
Remember, it wouldn’t be a ghost train without ghosts ready to jump out and scare you, trying to prevent you from finding the pirate treasure they have guarded for so many years!
Creepy Clowns & Horrifying Zombies!
Seaside arcades mean ticket games, and the more tickets you can collect, the better the prize you can exchange them for at the best prize shop in Blackpool! And we have some spectacularly spooky ticket games for you to play, such as Down the Clown and Zombie Outbreak.
Down the Clown is a seaside favourite, based on the famous game from Coney Island in New York. Throw your balls at the scary clowns and try to knock down as many as you can as fast as you can to score points and win tickets. But keep your eye out for the red clown, or your luck will run out!
The Super Spray Cannon games need heroes to stop a zombie outbreak! Fire your water cannon at the screen to freeze the attacking zombies, as mist rises from the playing field to add to the spooky atmosphere. Play with a friend and see who can win the most tickets!
The older kids might enjoy The Walking Dead arcade game, where you use your crossbow to fend off the zombie Walkers, just like the hit TV show! See if you can clear the path to escape, pick up weapons, and battle hoards of zombies, surrounded by spooky lights and sounds to create an eerie environment.
Of course, there are many other arcade and ticket games to enjoy at Coral Island, with entertainment for kids of all ages, and adults too!
Frighteningly Fabulous Food!
We also have a number of restaurants within the venue, from traditional seaside fish and chips to pirate-themed diners! Best of all, at many of our eateries, Kids Eat Free! Look for the yellow ‘Kids Eat Free’ stickers at participating restaurants, where children can receive a free meal with every paid adult meal.
For many people, no trip to the seaside would be complete without fish and chips, and at Coral Island, we have not one but two award-winning chippies! Our Big Fish & Traditional Fish & Chips restaurants have recently been awarded the prestigious NFFF Quality Accreditation sponsored by Sarsons Vinegar.
Whether you want to sit down and enjoy a feast of fish and chips or grab a takeaway to eat while you explore the illuminations once the sun goes down, we’ve got you sorted!
The Buccaneer Family Bar & Restaurant has to be the ideal venue for Halloween. Set in the Captain’s library onboard Captain Jack’s pirate galleon, it is truly a site to behold. All around the restaurant, you can find precious treasures and pirate booty hidden in the floorboards, and portraits of pirates adorning the walls. Your little scallywags are sure to find new hidden treasures with every visit!
As well as serving family favourites seven days a week, Sunday is carvery day at The Buccaneer, with our famous three meat carvery served with freshly prepared vegetables from noon, and is included in our Kids Eat Free promotion - no voucher needed or pre-booking, just turn up! One free under 10 kids meal per one paid adult meal. One child must be present, per free kids meal claimed.
