Blackpool

If there’s a reason to love spring, it has to be all the Bank Holidays we get in the UK! We’ve only just had the long weekend of the Easter Bank Holiday, and while there are usually two more in May, this year we’re getting THREE Bank Holidays, with an extra one on Monday 8 May following the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May.

That means there’s even more time to plan a packed weekend in Blackpool this May, with the May Day Bank Holiday on Monday 1 May, the Coronation Bank Holiday on 8 May, and the Spring Bank Holiday on 29 May - and then it’s the half-term holidays, so even more reason to get excited!

Let’s take a look at what’s on in town over the three Bank Holidays, as well as the very special events to mark the historic occasion of the Coronation of the King!

May Day Bank Holiday

May Day is an ancient European festival that marks the beginning of summertime (although, we all know the weather can be much rainier and spring-like rather than summer in the UK!). It’s also the first of the three Bank Holiday weekends coming up, starting on Saturday 28 April, so if you’re planning a visit to the seaside this weekend, let’s see what’s in store for you!

Are you and your family sci-fi and Dr Who fans? Then you certainly shouldn’t miss Invasion – Celebrating 60 Years of Doctor Who! in Blackpool at Viva Blackpool on 30 April. There’ll be special guests, signings and autograph sessions, exhibitions of famous Dr Who props from the long-running TV series, a cosplay contest, and a market with stalls selling all manner of merchandise for the avid Whovian!

If you’re taking a day to stroll along the Promenade, why not visit The Hole In Wand, a brand-new attraction on the seafront, for a round of magical golf? Take the Wizard’s Quest on this 9-hole mini golf course, that winds its way through forests full of snakes, ancient castles, and a trip to a mysterious train station!

What magic will you have gained by the end of the Wizard’s Quest? The powers of a Serpent, Basilisk, Unicorn or Wizard? Stop by the Wizard Tavern before you leave, to meet Grobblenook the Gargoyle and enjoy a delicious potion, or one with ‘poisonous’ options for grown-up wizards!

Coral Island is, as usual, open all day every day, and the perfect place for a family adventure come rain or shine. If you’re looking for traditional seaside arcade fun, then we have it all at Coral Island, from the penny pushers to soft toy crane grabbers, challenge your friends and family to a race on the Camel Derby, or see who can win the most tickets by shooting the most hoops!

Kids Eat Free all day every day at Coral Island’s participating restaurants too, with all the family favourites, burgers, fish & chips, and much more! Every child under 10 can receive a free meal with every paid adult meal, and there are no vouchers needed just look out for our brand new Kids Eat Free neon sign-style posters!

Coronation Weekend

The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Saturday 6 May is truly a historic event, and there has been nothing like this seen since the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II back in 1952! The occasion will be marked in style in Blackpool, with numerous events planned for everyone to see and join in with.

Blackpool Transport has arranged a magnificent heritage tram parade along the seafront on Sunday 7 May, where 11 of the vintage and special trams will be out on display, travelling between the Pleasure Beach and Little Bispham and back, as well as stopping at The Comedy Carpet on the Tower festival headland for photo opportunities.

If you’d like to ride these unique trams, then book tickets fast!

There'll also be a Big Lunch outdoor picnic on the Tower Festival Headland on Sunday 7 May, along with live entertainment to celebrate the King’s Coronation, hosted by Blackpool’s very own Hayley Kay, with performances from X Factor finalists Rob King and Rachael Wooding and, direct from the West End, Leanne Jones, The Jersey Beats, Angels Elite and Mooky and Boo, the lovable clowns from the Blackpool Tower Circus.

That party continues in the evening with a free live screening of the Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle, and Blackpool will be taking part in the Lighting Up The Nation event with Coronation-themed illuminations, with a grand finale of a fantastic interactive light show on Blackpool Tower.

We’ll also be celebrating the Coronation at Coral Island too! You’ll find special dishes prepared at The Buccaneer and Peggy’s Snack Bar (and don’t forget, Kids Eat Free!), and we’ll have decorations and bunting all around the arcade.

There’ll be party games and special prizes to be won all day on the Camel Derby, as well as exclusive Coronation vouchers found in the penny pushers and special celebratory souvenirs to be found in Coral Island’s Prize Shop, the biggest and best in Blackpool! So make sure you come and join us for a right royal day of fun!

Spring Bank Holiday

Not only is there another Bank Holiday at the end of May, but it’s the start of the half-term holidays too.

With a bit of luck, the weather might even be warm enough to venture out onto Blackpool’s Golden Mile of sandy beaches, so you might want to pack your buckets and spades and don’t forget the sunscreen whatever the weather.

If you’re looking for activities for the kids over the half term, then why not visit Ascent Trampoline Park, for hours of bouncy fun? There are not only trampolines galore at Ascent, you can find climbing walls, an indoor caving system, soft play areas for the smaller kids, and a brand-new Ninja Assault course for the mini-ninjas in your life!

Adults will be pleased to know there’s also a 5-star rated cafe to sit and enjoy tea or coffee and a bite to eat while the kids run amok!

Opening at The Grand Theatre on 31 May is The Wizard of Oz, brought to you by the Royal Shakespeare Company, and featuring all the songs and moments from the classic 1939 film. Revisit the tale of young Dorothy as she’s whisked away to the magical land of Oz, encountering witches, talking animals, and more!

Everyone at Coral Island will be eager to see all your happy, smiling faces during the school holidays, and we’ll have all our old favourite games and new state-of-the-art video games ready and waiting for you!

See how many tickets you can win on Monopoly or Jurassic Park, take a trip on the Pirate Flyer above the crowds, or we dare you to set forth on an adventure to Davy Jones’ Locker on the Ghost Train!

We’ve also got our brand-new Coral Island Play Cards, where you can use the special terminals in the arcade to get a card, add credit, and use it to play many of our games contactlessly, instead of needing to carry around a pot of pound coins!

Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages for special offers too, and get free credit on your Coral Island Play Card.

Are You Excited yet?

May is looking like an exciting, action-packed month of celebrations, adventure, and fun for the whole family in Blackpool, so why not start planning a trip today?
